I bought this because I and my boyfriend love boba drinks and make them at home. This is a nice addition to boba pearls after they have cooked or straight into the boba drink, either drizzled on the sides or fully mixed in. This probably wouldn't be too hard to make (it's likely just brown sugar simple syrup...equal parts sugar and water), but this is convenient and not incredibly expensive.

One thing you should really understand about this kit, is that it is for making very authentic bubble tea rather than the easiest to make bubble tea. Most of the negative reviews I've seen come from people who didn't read the instructions on how to prepare the boba. To be fair, I didn't read them either - they were either lost by the time I got to using the kit, or they were left out.
It took some trial and error, plus the help of google, but in the end I found all you need to do is bring some water to a boil on the stove, add the boba, then cook for 20-30 minutes or until they look like the boba pearls you are used to seeing. Then drain and add to your tea.
The rest of the instructions are easy. Brew tea, make simple syrup, mix everything together, viola! Once I got the boba done properly, we turned out perfect bubble tea that was quite tasty (we only tried the peach tea, I ruined too many boba to try any other flavors).
I think this kit makes a fantastic gift, but only if you are certain the recipient can handle the cooking of the boba :)

I love bubble tea. When I saw this DIY bubble tea kit, I knew I had to give it a try. I have to say I'm not disappointed. It comes with pretty much everything you'll need except milk. The quality of the ingredients are very good. The Boba is vacuum sealed for freshness. There are 3 different tea varieties, all sealed in resealable bags - organic Earl Grey tea, premium Jasmine tea and premium black tea. 8 plastic Boba straws (individually wrapped) and recipe cards are also provided. So far I have tried the Boba black tea recipe. The recipe card shows you exactly how to prepare it. It takes a while to prepare everything though, so take your time. I used regular milk and it's delicious. I believe the kit has enough ingredients to make two dozen cups of bubble tea in total. All in all, I'm very satisficed with it. It is fun to make your own bubble tea and it's delicious. The ingredients are great and the recipes are easy to follow. A great kit to try out and be enjoyed as a family. Highly recommended.

Sigh. It was not so long ago that I actually owned a boba tea stand with my friend, and we sold some amazingly delicious boba teas at the farmers markets around town. It was a great time but tons of work, and our town is really small, so sadly our dream was short-lived. Since then, I can't stomach the junky teas from the local shops, made from powdered tea mixes and cheap, sad boba. But I was having a wicked craving for bubble tea lately, and all of my tea supplies were long gone, so I was excited to find this tea kit on Amazon and give it a try.
I broke this kit out a few days after it came in at a family gathering for my daughter's birthday. I absolutely love that, besides cream/milk and sugar, there was nothing I had to purchase to make these teas - the kit contains everything including straws! We only had a total of 9 people there and only about half wanted teas, so I made 1/4 of the boba and one pack of the tea. The boba are EXACTLY like the good quality boba I used for my stand - dark tapioca with a hint of sweetness, dense and chewy and hold moisutre a good amount of time before becoming firm again. The boba were fresh enough to use the whole time people were over, about 3.5 hours. And the teas were also delicious! Robust and flavorful with minimal bitterness. I do a slow, long overnight brew on my teas to create the super strong tea typically associated with bubble teas, and poor quality teas will definitely be evident as the flavor will be overpowered by bitterness on a long brew like that. This tea stayed smooth and was perfectly balanced by the milk and sweet boba.
I really, really enjoyed this kit. It was an absolutely perfect way for me to get a little dose of perfect boba brew at home without committing to full bags of different components that would end up taking up space in my pantry for years or thrown out unused. The flavor of the tea and boba was delicious as well. Highly recommended, and I'll be back for another kit soon.

This is perfect for gifting for a boba lover! Very cute packaging and flavorful tea. The boba it comes with is the slow cooking boba. Takes about an hour. I made a separate purchase for the quick cooking boba. I would suggest buying more straws or the reusable ones. I would buy again.

This kit contains all the basics of boba-making. Three types of tea, the boba pearls, instructions for each type + others - and even the big boba straws! - all really nicely gift package if giving as a gift. I bought this for my teenage daughter who loves boba tea. We made some together last night - it was quite a process but turned out really good. The regular recipe wants you to use the whole bag of tea to make 4-7 boba teas. We ended up splitting the recipe in half since only 2 of us in the house like this drink. That was the perfect amount for 2 large boba teas. The boba pearl recipe wants you to make the whole bag at once - but these will go bad if you don't use them up in a day or two, so we opted to split the bag into 6ths (by weight measurement) and only cook what we need each time so we wouldn't have to worry about the pearls going bad. Yes - its a pain to make them each time but only takes about 35 min so as long as you plan on it, it's fine.
Overall I think this kit did a great job of supplying you with quality ingredients and also teaching you how to properly make boba tea (we tried a powdered milk tea mix once and it was horrible). I'd love to buy these boba pearls and teas in bulk separately from the kit. The pearls are different than others we've tried - a little sweet smelling like they were soaked in something before being dried out. The jasmine tea was really great quality - haven't tried the others yet but happy about the quality of this kit. Great family and friend activity!

I suggest letting the boba sit for a few minutes in the hot tea to absorb moisture. The Milk tea tastes delicious considering its powder. I think this box would be a great gift too since it comes with really nice packaging. Very satisfied, highly recommended for anybody. The tea flavors are delicious!

This kit is a nice gift for bubble tea lovers. It's simple 3 bags of loose tea, tapioca pearls, and straws in a hard cardboard box. Giftable but simple. You could add some nice drink cups to make it more of a gift. All packages were sealed and the pearls were vacuum packed for ultimate freshness. There is plenty of everything to make 2 dozen average sized drinks. Nice, good tasting, easy, and fun.

This is my first Boba that I have tried to make on my own and I am really impressed by this kit. It comes with everything you need and even instruction recipe cards. It comes with fresh jasmine, black, and peach oolong leaves, along with a vacuum sealed bag of the boba pearls. The peach is my favorite! I am lactose intolerant and used lactaid milk and it worked great. It also comes with the large straws which are nice. The packaging was nice and would make a great gift or something fun to do for a get together!

I live in California. We are not short of boba tea shops here. But it is still a lot of fun to be able to prepare boba tea at home. The kit is quite complete. It has the bobas, tea leaves, and even the big straws. Yes, it is a pain to cook bobas. But there is no other way around unless you want to get those vacuum-sealed cooked bobas. I actually prefer cooking them. They are more fresh and taste better that way. The bobas themselves are sweet. I only used half of it since we have only two people. The end product is very similar to what I have from shops. The packaging is quite top notch. This is a great gift for those who like boba tea.

I love bubble tea and, get it anytime I am near a shop that offers it but, I have never made it at home. My kids were extremely excited to help with this evening project! The recipes are on individual recipe cards that are easy to follow. The 3 tea flavors included are each unique, delicious and, the quality of the tea is high. The bubbles are easy to make and have the perfect texture! We made too many and, they kept well in the fridge! We made the syrup as instructed and added almond milk. We used the bubble sized straws included and, it was just like getting one at the shop!

Having moved 800 miles away, there are no Boba shops nearby! The closest one is still 30 miles from me, and it's not convenient to make that trip. The loose leaf tea and bobas are delicious and taste exactly like what we buy from the cafe. This is a fun, easy, and delicious kit to make. You have to provide your own simple syrup so that was one thing not included in the kit. But it's easy to do and they give instructions on how to make it. One little tip I'd say is not to leave any uneaten tapioca pearls in the straw when you're done as they'll continue to swell and will get stuck in the straw. The quality of this, especially the loose leaf tea is definitely worth the money. It's a unique gift that also ends up being cheaper than buying bubble tea out. I would definitely recommend this!

That being said, while this is a great starter kit, it doesn’t contain everything you need to make the milk tea. You will need to go out and buy some cream or milk, as well as sugar to make the syrup to sweeten the drink. The process of making the tea, syrup, and boba, is a bit time consuming, so now I know why this costs so much when you buy it at a coffee shop. I would recommend making everything all at once, and then storing each component separately, and mixing as needed. This way it will be ready and easy to mix throughout the week. Otherwise, maybe making it all at once and serving to friends is another way to go. Over the past week, I made all three of the teas and loved every single one of them. Jasmine is by far my favorite, black tea is a classic, and the peach tea was better than I expected, but not my preference. This kit makes a great gift and is also a great way to learn how to make true milk teas with boba (bubble tea).

Ignore the 1 stars they obviously didn't read the instructions....you have to cook the tapioca pearls they are instant! It's a bit time consuming, I purchased the huge $60 kit for myself and my 16 yr old to have together and we both love it, I had never had a bubble tea before so I was a little nervous but so glad I went ahead and got it. Glad my son likes something that we can do together too!

I love the peach oolong tea. The instructions were pretty easy to follow. Read how to make the pearls all the way through. You don't have to cook the whole package at once. I used brown sugar for the syrup.

It is possible to make Boba Tea at home with this kit that includes everything but sugar syrup, cream and ice. The kit includes a 14 ounce packet of boba tapioca balls, recipes for the drinks and boba preparation, three tea varieties—jasmine, black and peach oolong along with 8 straws large enough to allow the bbba to be sucked up the straw.
It is somewhat time consuming to cook the boba so plan on about 1 1/2 hours for that task but the other steps can be accomplished during that process I prepared the black tea version and the finished drink is as good as any commercial drink I’ve tried plus I can precisely adjust the sweetness to suit my taste. Delicious.

We like sweet drinks a lot that I'm often ordering and trying new drinks a couple times a month. We like to go to the local boba drink shop and get us a milk tea or something with all kinds of chewy things floating inside. We don't like paying the prices per drink, so we started going to the Asian grocery store and buying ingredients to make our own.

People can have a choice of which tea...Earl Grey, Jasmine, and black tea.
Black is our favorite as the bitter taste contrasts well with any sweet things we put in it and we can taste the flavor of the tea more. But all the flavors are good.
+ For the price of ten drinks at the milk tea store you get easily double that with this kit.
Cost is a big deal to me and I'm happy to see that this makes boba drinks a lot more affordable and you can control what goes in your own drink at home.

If you are careful you can wash these and reuse since you'll get more than 8 servings from this kit.

We've tried the boba that is in a glass jar from the Asian market and it just isn't the same. Thus, I'd head over to my local milk tea place and order three servings of boba to go, for less than $2, and make my own teas at home. The vacuum seal does help make this boba work well (much better than the glass jar ones). Not as fresh as fresh, but not bad either.

Anything that takes the guesswork out of a process is always appreciated.
OVERALL:
We use coconut milk and add some additional leechee fruit or coconut jelly that be bought separately and it makes for a wonderful drink. Even without our extras, it is a great kit that I know my teenage daughter will enjoy gifted to her.
